What is an Individual Performance index?
The IPI takes values such as, yearling weight and weaning weight gives them a numerical score/rank. Additional values that are included are loineye area (LEA), loineye depth(LED), and back fat (BF) that are gained via ultrasound scanning at either 6 months of age or a year. While having the scan data to include is a great piece of the puzzle it is not completely necessary to gain the many benefits of this program. The other weights and measures collected give a strong picture of an animal’s performance.
